It is 20th-century tonal, scored for chorus, piano and one percussionist. Frequently performed by college and university choirs, its texts are still very relevant: City of Ships; Long, Too Long O Land;
Patroling Barnegat; To the East and to the West; The Sobbing of the Bells.
